Day 2: Thu 29 Aug – Dubai to Dublin

Due to favourable winds we arrived in Dubai a few minutes early.  After winding my may through the maze that is terminal 3 of the Dubai international airport, I eventually found my way to the Emirates Business Lounge, had a shower and made myself comfortable.  I only had 2 hours so couldn’t become too comfy.  I also decided to find the gate from which I was leaving so as to not miss the flight. The Lounge is H U G E!  It has a number of ‘restaurant’ type eating places and others are just cold food.  Plenty of wet bars as well.  The Wi-Fi was a bit slow though.

When it finally came time for me to board, I handed over my boarding pass that I was given in Brisbane and it beeped.  The man then ripped it up and I thought “here we go, got another seat up the back of the plane!!”  But no, the man asked me my name and then gave me a new pass; I had been given a complimentary upgrade to Business Class – seat 9B.

For some reason we left about 35 minutes later than scheduled.  The guy next to me took a tablet and slept most of the way, but snored like a tractor!  Thank goodness for earphones and ear plugs.  Even though we left late, we arrived in Dublin a few minutes early.  I got through immigration and customs quickly (because I was up the front of the aircraft!) and found a taxi easily.

I arrived at the hotel about 1300 and had to wait 30 mins for a room.  After checking in, I unpacked my bags and collapsed for 1.5 hrs before Jane arrived.  We had an early light dinner in the hotel restaurant and went to bed relatively early.  However, as the hotel was quite old with thin walls and floors, I didn’t sleep all that well.
